About us

Sunny and Titan
I have had dogs most of my life. As a young adult I found that people were flocking to me asking for advice about training their dogs, after they saw how well behaved mine were and they wanted the same for themselves. It wasn't long before  I got involved with a local dog training club. This led to my life in dogs as a dog trainer, studying animal behavior (which has always been a deep interest to me), structure and diet, as well as competing and training in many different venues with my dogs. I also spent years hanging out with dog friends at weekend long training seminars, and both working and learning camps.

I believe form follows function and a physically and mentally healthy dog is important. I have evaluated many litters of various breeds over the years and spent much of my life in training for canine structure and behavior. Lets just call it a passion of mine. I believe one needs a dog that is appropriate for the job at hand. And I believe in helping people find that appropriate dog for their wants and needs. One person's needs for dog to help them move the cattle from pasture to pasture is going to require a much different dog than the person who needs a dog to be a hearing dog.

We, consists of myself (Laurie), my husband (Ted), my daughter (Rose), and my son (Lucas). We live in central eastern Washington. We have a small farm with chickens, sheep, cats and rabbits. Our dogs are an integral part of our lives here. They help with many chores around here and are constantly by our sides or doing a property check.

We feed a species appropriate raw food diet and have for over twenty years now.We do not vaccinate our dogs (unless compulsory by law). Science is proving that dogs given a very limited amount of, or no, vaccinations are far healthier than those who have annual vaccinations. We are Natural Rearing breeders of this wonderful breed. Our dogs spend much time running in the fresh air of the outdoors. We do not use chemicals in or around our property, or on or in our dogs, or ourselves. We use natural alternatives.

When we have pups, they are whelped in the house. When they get their feet under themselves and need more room, then we let them move outside with many indoor house visits. They get to be around chickens, cats,  rabbits and sheep. We spend a lot of time being with the pups and exposing them to all sorts of sounds, smells and surfaces. They sleep through pots and pans being dropped while we are cooking.

We do our best to evaluate each pup and potential new owners. We feel it is in the best interest of all involved that the most appropriate match be made. It is most important for potential buyers to think really long and hard and honestly about what their needs and wants in a dog are, so we can make sure to get you the best possible match so everyone is happy. A badly matched owner and new pup is a disaster waiting to happen and the owners end up being very unhappy. Be honest with yourself about what you are willing to do as a new puppy owner and how much time you are willing to give up.

Our goals with the English Shepherds is to breed the all around farm and family dog. These are "some" of the traits we find very important in the breed that we hope and strive to carry on.
* A dog that is of sound mind and body
* Faithfulness to, and want to be with, the owner.
* Biddable and willing to do any task the owner asks, but to have the sense to make their own decisions.
* Can see a task that needs to be taken care of and can react to that need and take care of the job with or without the owner present.
* An energetic chore dog that can relax when no work is at hand, yet has the grit to work all day if need be.
* Watchfulness of property, stock and family.
* A guardian without undo aggression, who alerts owner of things that are out of place or of intruders.
* Quick to respond to commands and works as a partner with owner.
* A dog that can hold back a tough steer yet clean the smallest of babies with tenderness.
* Curious, alert, inquisitive, gentle, imposing, and nurturing.

If you find that the ES is the right breed for you, give us a call. Here you will find complete honesty about our dogs, our methods, and ourselves. If our dogs are not the type you are looking for, we are more than happy to help you find the right breeder for you. I don’t want to improperly place any pups. I want my pups to go to the right homes the first time and have it be a happy situation.
